黒澤明監督の名作映画「生きる」を、ノーベル賞作家カズオ・イシグロの脚本によりイギリスでリメイクしたヒューマンドラマ。
1953年、第2次世界大戦後のロンドン。仕事一筋に生きてきた公務員ウィリアムズは、自分の人生を空虚で無意味なものと感じていた。そんなある日、彼はガンに冒されていることがわかり、医師から余命半年と宣告される。手遅れになる前に充実した人生を手に入れたいと考えたウィリアムズは、仕事を放棄し、海辺のリゾート地で酒を飲んで馬鹿騒ぎするも満たされない。ロンドンへ戻った彼はかつての部下マーガレットと再会し、バイタリティに溢れる彼女と過ごす中で、自分も新しい一歩を踏み出すことを決意する。
久しぶりに見入ってしまいました。
